The Milton Historical Society's 65th Annual Pioneer Dinner will take place Sunday, March 4 with a production of Spoon River Anthology. The Pioneer Dinner commemorates the arrival of the community's founding father, Joseph Goodrich, with his family to what is now known as Milton on March 4, 1839. This year marks the 173rd anniversary of their arrival.
The dinner and performance will take place at the Milton Seventh Day Baptist Church, 720 E. Madison Ave., Milton. An afternoon of homemade food, a brief annual meeting and an enlightening performance all begins at 12 noon.
The menu will include a buffet of hearty homemade soups and chili, corn bread, baked potatoes and fixings, homemade desserts and beverages. Tickets are $9 for Milton Historical Society members and $10 for non-members; tickets include the meal and performance. This year, the Historical Society also will offer performance-only tickets for $5 each. Tickets are on sale at the Milton Historical Society, Northleaf Winery and Dave's Milton Ace Hardware. Tickets should be purchased in advance.
The production of Spoon River Anthology, written by American Poet Edgar Lee Masters in 1915, will begin at 1 p.m. following the dinner. The story tells the tale of community members in a small Midwestern town in late nineteenth century. The colorful, small-town characters speak from beyond the grave. Creative Outlets Theatre Company of Whitewater brings Masters' characters to life.
